Easy recipe for bagels, the most popular buns in New York

Until a few years ago, bagels were those muffins with a hole in the center that came out in American films, but it is no longer surprising to see them on many large surfaces. Making them at home is sucked with this easy recipe for bagels and the result has nothing to do with industrialists. Light years. Or maybe best propane pizza oven is more interesting to you?

Perhaps the most peculiar thing about bagel is that, in its elaboration, it is scalded a few seconds before taking it to the oven. This provides a higher crumb density and a slightly crunchy exterior. New Yorkers love to have breakfast bagels and there are places where they can take them all over the city. If you want to prepare them easily, here is our recipe for homemade bagels.

  • Sesame seeds
  • Sunflower oil
  • Egg yolk1
  • ml milk

How to make homemade bagels

Crumble the fresh yeast and mix it with the flour, salt, sugar, melted butter, egg white, milk, and water. Knead a few minutes until you get a smooth and shiny dough.

We grease a large bowl with a pinch of sunflower oil, put the dough in it, cover with a clean cloth and let stand for about an hour. The dough should rise to double in volume.

We degassed the dough by inserting the fist into it a couple of times. We knead it gently and cut into eight portions, making sure they are the same size. We bowl each portion and form the bagels, with their hole in the center. The bigger the eaujero, the better, because it will close in the oven.

Let rise again for ten minutes. Meanwhile, we fill a large saucepan with plenty of water and bring it to a boil. We scalded each bagel in the boiling water for ten seconds, which takes time to drop, flip and remove.

Place the bagels on a baking sheet covered with vegetable paper and brush with a mixture of beaten egg yolk and a little milk. Sprinkle with sesame seeds (optional) and bake in the oven, preheated to 210º C, with heat up and down, for 20-25 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove and let cool before consuming.

With what to accompany homemade bagels

The homemade bagels can be eaten as is or stuffed to taste. One of the most popular combinations is cream cheese and smoked salmon, but the possibilities are endless: goat cheese cream and roasted peppers, tomato salad, arugula and avocado and much more.
